Tinned Tomatoes: A Vegetarian Based Blog
Tinned Tomatoes is a food blog that focuses entirely on vegetarian cooking and offers its reader a number of dishes that shows how vegetarian food can be exciting and it is certainly not as bland as meat eaters like to argue. By focusing on vegetarian food it does mean that this blog marks itself out as being slightly different to others that are online, but how good is it and is it an interesting read?
It is best to point out at the start that this is not a blog written by somebody that has been to cookery school and this does actually help it because even though it looks quite glossy it has been compiled by somebody that just has a love of this type of food and cooking. The blogger behind it is a self-taught cook and it has been in existence since 2007 and this natural love for vegetarian food does come across in the posts without being too over the top or confusing.
When you venture onto the Tinned Tomatoes website you will notice that there are various recipes on the front page and they are certainly well laid out and very easy to follow even if you are not the greatest cook. The handy thing is you do get photographs to check out and it does give you something to aim for as you know what the end result should be and it is up to you to pay attention in order to achieve that outcome. The beauty of the recipes has to be that there are no complex terms used and things are explained in easy to follow steps, so do not think that it is like a high end cookery book as that is simply not the case and it is very difficult for you to go wrong if you pay attention.
Something else that does have to be pointed out about this website is that it has links to other blogs that the author, who is called Jacqueline Meldrum and lives in Scotland, currently writes and you will notice that one link includes recipes for a baby or a toddler whilst another refers to a series of recipes that people can submit and then discuss in detail. By including these links it just gives you so much more to check out with them all connected to the same basic principles as you find in the Tinned Tomatoes website and it is very easy to move between the various pages and blogs without losing track of where you are. Clearly in order to do this, there has to be a lot of care and attention paid to the navigation and Jacqueline has certainly done a fantastic job in making sure that you can find the various links without any difficulty.
If you have never really experienced vegetarian cooking or if you would just like to know more about it in general, then the Tinned Tomatoes blog is certainly a great place to check out. The posts are certainly not boring, there are some great photographs on there that really do showcase the dishes and there is a very good chance that they will tempt you into trying something new when you realise that vegetarian cooking can actually be both exciting and delicious and if you end up thinking this, then the blog has managed to do its job.
